MIRAH - the isotope collector on the HALO high-altitude research aircraft

Brief description

In the course of demonstration missions and future missions of the research aircraft HALO, the so-called air sampler MIRAH (Measurements of Stable Isotope Ratios in Atmospheric Trace Gases on HALO) is to be placed in its baggage compartment. During an air mission, a maximum of 24 external air samples can be drawn in special containers. The air samples are taken at different times and at different locations and later analyzed in the laboratory for isotopic ratios in volatile organic compounds.

The experiment is integrated into two R-228 T-racks (DLR, Oberpfaffenhofen). A HALO standard inlet is used for the demonstration missions. The modification includes the following hardware components:

MIRAH-Rack-1 with two container modules
MIRAH-Rack-2 with compressor unit, diaphragm pump insert,
rack power distribution box (RPDB_AC) and electronic insertion

The total mass for the MIRAH experiment, i.e. Units, inserts, R-228 T-racks, dampers and mounting adapters on the floor rails is estimated to be 207 kg.

The electrical supply is via the RPDB_AC housed in MIRAH-Rack-2. The primary voltage supply is 115V / 200V, 400Hz, 3 phases. The power supply is permanently at 650W (flush mode) and intermittently for several minutes at 1200W (collection mode).
